China has introduced more than 2,000 reform programs in the past 10 years, covering various economic and social fields, Sun Yeli, spokesperson for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Saturday.

The reform tasks outlined by the third plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in 2013 have been accomplished in general, and those set after the 19th CPC National Congress are pressing ahead in implementation, Sun told media.

Breakthroughs have been made in some key areas and key links, Sun said, citing reforms of the Party and state institutions, national defense and the armed forces, and the Party building.

Noting that reform is an ongoing process, Sun said there are still many tough issues to address while making efforts to enhance high-level self-reliance in science and technology, build a high-standard market system, ensure food, energy and resource security, forestall and defuse risks, and promote overall economic and social green transformation.

Sun also clarified a misunderstanding about China's "dual circulation" strategy, which means an economic development pattern that takes domestic development as the mainstay, with domestic and international development reinforcing each other.

"Taking domestic development as the mainstay doesn't mean closing the door of opening-up," he told media. "Instead, by unlocking the potential of domestic demand, we could better link up domestic and international markets."

"China will not close its door, but will open it still wider," he added.
