Lin Zhanxi, a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said China's Juncao technology, which contributed to poverty reduction in China, has helped 106 countries and regions around the world.
Lin, a professor at the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, made the remarks at the "Delegates' Corridor" ahead of the 20th CPC National Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sunday.
The term Juncao technology refers to techniques that utilize herbaceous plants to grow edible fungi. It can also help to produce functional food, feed, fertilizer, biomass energy and biological materials and protect the environment.
Lin and the National Engineering Research Center for Juncao Technology of the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University developed the technology.
He shared his foreign aid experience in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands and said helping people there to master this modern biotechnology was a challenge to him.
"We have localized and simplified the technology so that villagers can easily understand it, learn it and apply it," he said, adding that the technical demonstration was a success.
"So far, we have trained more than 12,000 technical personnel of the Juncao technology for developing countries and trained 24 foreign students who translated the technology into 18 languages," Lin said.
In 2017, Juncao technology was listed as a key project of the China-UN Peace and Development Trust Fund.
