The 132nd session of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, opened online on Saturday with a record number of products on display and offering a longer service timeline.

More than 35,000 domestic and overseas companies are participating in the event, which is approximately 10,000 more than that of the previous session and they have submitted over 3.06 million exhibits, said Xu Bing, spokesperson of the fair.

"Although the current Canton Fair will be online only, it can make use of the advantages of modern information technology," said Tang Ping, the senior manger of Canton Fair Operation Department, under the China Foreign Trade Center.

Of the products on display, more than 130,000 feature smart capabilities and over 500,000 are green, low-carbon commodities.

Organizers plan to hold more than 70 global trade promotions and 200 activities for new product releases.

"The Canton Fair is one of our main trading channels. The platform is quite mature and developed. We have been to other trade fairs around the world, but we feel that the Canton Fair has proven to be the most effective," said Li Zhong, the chairman of the board of Guangzhou Pintech Metal Tools Company.

"You get everything under one roof. You will have options to choose from, something I really enjoy and appreciate about the Canton Fair," said Haresh Roopani, the director of Vitram FZCO, a United Arab Emirates company.

Starting from this session, the Canton Fair will extend the service period of its online platform, with the availability of most functions, from the previous 10 days to five months.
