The Communist Party of China (CPC) has brought about an all-around improvement in the lives of the Chinese people over the past decade, according to a report delivered by Xi Jinping to the 20th CPC National Congress at its opening session on Sunday.
Through continuous endeavor, China has eradicated absolute poverty and made significant contributions to the global cause of poverty eradication. Since 2012, nearly 100 million people have been lifted out of poverty. And the country has finished building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, thus completing the First Centenary Goal, said the report.
China has promoted high-quality development, and its economic strength has achieved a historic leap, with GDP increasing from 54 trillion yuan in 2012 to 114 trillion yuan in 2021 ($18 trillion, based on the average exchange rate in 2021). The country has also adhered to economic globalization, promoted trade and investment liberalization and implemented a more proactive strategy of opening up.
China's manufacturing sector is the largest in the world, as are its foreign exchange reserves. It also ranks first in the world in terms of grain output.
The country has created more than 13 million urban jobs each year on average over the past 10 years.
With the coverage of basic old-age insurance over 90 percent and basic medical insurance over 95 percent, China has built the largest social security system in the world.
