NATO has de facto entered the Ukrainian conflict, but it will not affect the Russia's goal to complete its special military operation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told broadcaster Russia 1 on Sunday.

Peskov admitted that NATO's assistance to Ukraine has significantly complicated the situation, but Russia has the ability to continue the special operation.

The remarks came a day after Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanyshyna said that NATO is involved in the conflict.

She said that Russia is experiencing war with a NATO army because it is fighting an army that has been trained according to NATO standards and is equipped with the latest NATO equipment.

NATO has voiced support for Ukraine since Russia launched its military operation in February, and at its recent summit, NATO members pledged millions of dollars' worth of air defense systems after Ukrainian cities were struck by Russian missiles.

Ukraine is seeking NATO membership. In late September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country would request fast-track NATO membership shortly after Russia formally incorporated the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
