The Press Center for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) hosted a press conference in Beijing on Monday afternoon. Officials briefed journalists on how the CPC has exercised and will exercise full and strict self-governance over the Party and further advance Party building in the new era, and took questions.

Fighting corruption

Comprehensively and strictly governing the Party is a distinct theme of Party building in the new era. The CPC has launched an unprecedented fight against corruption, won an overwhelming victory and consolidated it across the board, said Xiao Pei, deputy head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the National Supervisory Commission.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, more than 650,000 cases of corruption and misconduct involving education and medical care, pension and social security, law enforcement and judicial affairs, and many other fields of people's livelihood have been investigated and dealt with by the discipline inspection and supervision organs across the country.

The CCDI has cooperated with the National Bureau of Statistics to conduct public opinion surveys for 10 consecutive years. The results of this year's survey showed that 97.4 percent of the public believe that comprehensive and strict governance of the Party is effective, an increase of 22.4 percent over 2012, he said.

Some 99 percent of the people believe that the measures taken by the CPC Central Committee to uphold discipline and anti-corruption reflect the Party's thorough spirit of self-revolution, he added.

Enforcing Party discipline

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, organization departments have closely followed the firm steps of comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, managing officials with strict standards, strict measures and strict discipline, said Xu Qifang, deputy head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

The Party has continuously improved the reporting system for leading officials' personal matters, incorporating the reporting system into the overall design of the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party, Xu said.

The Party has regulated the behavior of leading officials' spouses, children and children's spouses running businesses. Since 2015, the behaviors of more than 4,700 leading officials' spouses, children and their spouses have been regulated across the country, Xu added.

Marxist concept of Party building

The CPC has more than 96 million Party members and more than 4.9 million grassroots Party organizations – the world's biggest Marxist ruling party, said Tian Peiyan, deputy director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee.

"To better manage such a large party, we must use the advanced nature and purity of the Marxist party to hold ourselves to high standards," Tian said.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, through comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, the CPC has solved many urgent problems, and the Party has become much stronger in the forging revolution, Tian added.

Xi Jinping in his report to the 20th National Congress of the CPC emphasized that comprehensive and strict governance of the Party is always on the way, and the Party's self-revolution is always on the way, he added.
