The Press Center for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) hosted its first press conference in Beijing on Monday morning.

Officials briefed journalists on how China would apply the new development philosophy, foster a new pattern of development, promote high-quality development and advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.

China has stronger capability to ensure food security

China has been improving its capability of ensuring food security over the past decade, with higher annual grain output and stable market operation, said Cong Liang, head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.

With a sound food security situation, "China has guaranteed that its food supply remains firmly in its own hands," Cong Liang said at the press conference.

China's grain output has stayed above 650 million tonnes for seven solid years.

China to ensure energy security

China is a major country in energy production and consumption, and ensuring energy security is always a primary task, said Ren Jingdong, deputy director of the National Energy Administration.

China's energy self-sufficiency rate has remained at over 80 percent in the past 10 years, providing a guarantee for promoting high-quality economic and social development, said Ren.

"We will increase our capacity to ensure the production of domestic resources and keep the bottom line of energy security," said Ren.

China to further encourage foreign investment

China will intensify its efforts to encourage foreign investment, said Zhao Chenxin, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission.

Despite many challenges since the beginning of this year, China has achieved remarkable results in both quantity and level of foreign investment attracted, Zhao added.

According to Zhao, China utilized 892.74 billion yuan (around $124 billion) of foreign capital in the first eight months, an increase of 16.4 percent year on year in comparable terms.

"China will only open its door wider. China's development will provide more opportunities and inject strong impetus to the region and the world," said Zhao.
