Reporter's note: This is the first episode of our special series "Millennials on the Rise," where CGTN speaks to some of the youngest delegates to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). They are grassroots Party members from all walks of life, ranging from the deputy chief of a Guizhou township to head of an emergency rescue unit.
Wei Zihan never imagined she would be a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). "I was totally shocked," the 31-year-old told CGTN.
Coming from a small village in southwest China's Guizhou Province, Wei chose to go back to the village after her college education, despite peers around her rushing to the country's bigger cities. "I saw that my hometown still lagged behind many developed places. I thought that I should be the one to go back," she said.
Wei took a special "horsetail embroidery" with her during her trip to Beijing. The art piece is a custom of ethnic Shui, the ethnic minority group she belongs to. "It took 20 Shui ladies two months to embroider this piece," she said. "The whole point of this piece is the beautiful Sandu, just like a phoenix, giving its whole heart to the CPC and looking forward to the grand opening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC."
