Israel's foreign ministry summoned Australia's ambassador after his country announced the cancellation of its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday.
Australia announced it would no longer recognize West Jerusalem as Israel's capital Tuesday, reversing a contentious decision by the previous conservative government.
"Jerusalem is a final status issue that should be resolved as part of any peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian people," Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement.
