Former UN Under-Secretary-General Erik Solheim said China's commitment to stop financing coal power projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is by far the most important decision for the environment in the world. Solheim, also former UN environment chief and current president of the Green Belt and Road Institute, made the remarks when he was asked about the Communist Party of China's role in global environmental protection.
