Haitian protesters demand PM's resignation, U.S. plans intervention
01:51

Protests broke out in Haiti as thousands of people took to the streets, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry on October 17. Haiti has been at a standstill for more than a month after an influential gang, "G9 Family," surrounded a key fuel terminal in the capital. The situation has worsened a recent cholera outbreak, with hundreds hospitalized and dozens dead amid a scarcity of potable water and other basic supplies. The U.S. and Mexico said they are preparing a UN resolution that would authorize "an international assistance mission" to help improve security in Haiti.
