Bumper harvest of hawthorn in north China's Shanxi
01:00

More than 50 hectares of hawthorn trees have produced a bumper harvest in Puxian County, Linfen City, north China's Shanxi Province. Local villagers have been busy picking hawthorn berries, each earning over 100 yuan a day. The county sits at a higher altitude, which means a big temperature difference between day and night. This makes the hawthorn there grow bigger, redder and sweeter berries, favored by many consumers. The county expects to harvest more than 200,000 kilograms of hawthorn berries, worth about $83,000. Related businesses have also been growing, with the production of hawthorn berry slices, for example, adding more value to the fruit.
