China's energy giant Sinopec announced on Tuesday that it had discovered shale natural gas reserves in southwest China's Sichuan Basin with a confirmed volume of 387.8 billion cubic meters and daily gas flow of 258,600 cubic meters. The discovery is Sinopec's first success in detecting natural gas in the local Cambrian shale that may contain more than 1 trillion cubic meters of gas underground.
