The fundamentals of the Chinese economy, characterized by strong resilience, enormous potential and long-term sustainability, will remain sound, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Thursday.

China vows to continue to promote a high level of opening-up and to create a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized business environment, he said.

Wang said China has been committed to a win-win strategy of opening-up since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

China's trade volume in the past decade increased from $4.4 trillion to $6.9 trillion, making it a major trading partner of more than 140 countries and regions.

He added that China has held the China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world's first import-themed national exhibition, noting that the cumulative turnover of the past four fairs reached $272.27 billion.

It has also kept building a new system of higher-level open economy despite the global rise of unilateralism and protectionism, he said, adding that China has launched 21 free trade zones and the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

In the past decade, China took the initiative to reduce tariffs on commodities, with the total tariff level dropping to 7.4 percent, and granted  zero tariff treatment on 98 percent of livestock products from 16 of the least developed countries, he added.
