Over 80% of autumn grain harvested across China

Chinese farmers have so far harvested nearly 69.73 million hectares of autumn grain, or 80.1 percent of the whole workload for the year, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Wednesday.

In one of China's grain production bases, Heilongjiang Province, around 13.33 million hectares of grain crops had been harvested, accounting for nearly 90 percent of the total acreage.

In north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Erdos City has explored new techniques to ameliorate its soil so that rice can grow on fields with moderate to severe saline-alkali soil.

In Yulin City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, more than 53,000 hectares of millet will be reaped in this golden season. The output per hectare is expected to reach 6,000 kilograms while the farmers' income will be increased to 15,000 yuan (about 2,076 U.S. dollars) per hectare.
