Tree seedlings planted at an indoor vertical farm have grown six times faster than they would have if they were planted in an outside field, a trial at a crop research center in Scotland has found. Some of the trees grew 40-50 centimeters tall in 90 days, while a similar rate of growth would take up to 18 months in an outdoor field. Kenny Hay, a manager at Forestry & Land Scotland which manages the country's public forests, says that planting more trees, both for timber and biodiversity benefits, is vital for tackling the twin crises of the climate.
