On October 19, thousands of whooper swans arrived at the Rongcheng Swan National Nature Reserve located in Rongcheng City of east China's Shandong Province, where they will spend the winter.
The whooper swan is under second-class state protection in China. It's one of the highest flying birds in the world, capable of flying over Mt. Qomolangma. Every year, whooper swans migrate from places including Siberia and stay for around five months at the bay in Rongcheng, making it one of the largest wintering grounds of whooper swans in the world.
