China's Saihanba will leverage technology to achieve high-quality development of its forest farm, An Changming, a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said on Saturday. 

Speaking at the "Delegates' Corridor" at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, An, who is the Party secretary of Saihanba Mechanized Forest Farm, said details of each tree would be filed and intelligent management of the forest would be conducted.

Saihanba, in north China's Hebei Province, was once a hunting ground and degraded into an area of barren wilderness. After generations of foresters' efforts, it has now become a national forest park and nature reserve with a total forest landscape of 1.15 million mu (about 76,700 hectares), as well as the world's largest forest farm.

For its outstanding contribution to restoring degraded land, the forest farm received the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification's (UNCCD) Land for Life Award in 2021. They also won the UN Champions of the Earth Award in 2017.

Endangered species conserved 

The naked carp species in Qinghai Lake on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was once endangered due to overfishing and environmental damage.

"Over the past decade, we have given all-around scientific protection to the naked carp, of which resource has increased to more than 100,000 tonnes, an increase of 42 times compared with the initial stage of the conservation project," said Qi Hongfang, a delegate from Qinghai Province to the 20th National Congress of the CPC.

During this period, Qinghai built Sanjiangyuan National Park, which has the highest altitude and the largest area in China. Qi added that Qinghai has also become the province with the highest proportion of clean energy installed capacity in the country.

Qi said the ecosystem of Qinghai Lake has been restored, which should lead to a better environment for Qinghai in the future.
