Giorgia Meloni sworn in as Italian prime minister

Giorgia Meloni was formally sworn in as the new prime minister of Italy by Italian President Sergio Mattarella at a ceremony held at the Quirinale Palace, the country's presidential palace, in Rome on Saturday.

The new government's 24 cabinet ministers were also sworn in at the ceremony.

Meloni, head of the nationalist Brothers of Italy, swept to victory in an election last month, allied with Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia and Matteo Salvini's League.
