The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a press conference on Monday to introduce and interpret a key report to the just-concluded 20th CPC National Congress.

The following are some highlights of the press conference. 

The first section of the report touches lightly on the work of the past five years since the 19th CPC National Congress and heavily on the great changes in the first decade of the new era, Jiang Jinquan, director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, told the conference.

The past decade has been a decade in which China's development has stepped up to a new level and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has been advanced, he said.

The CPC has united and led all Chinese people to secure historic achievements and see historic changes in the cause of the Party and the country, and has taken China on a new journey toward building a modern socialist country in all respects, Jiang said.

The past decade marked three major events of great immediate importance and profound historical significance for the cause of the Party and the people, according to the landmark report delivered to the Congress by Xi Jinping.

"We embraced the centenary of the Communist Party of China; we ushered in a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and we eradicated absolute poverty and finished building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, thus completing the First Centenary Goal," Xi said, adding that they were "historic feats" that will be forever recorded in the Chinese nation's history and profoundly influence the world 

Chinese modernization is the modernization of common prosperity for all, according to the report. 

The report charted a roadmap for building a modern socialist China in all respects over the next five years and beyond, outlining measures to boost and properly share the country's development. 

China's modernization has both the common features of other countries and its own characteristics based on its own national conditions, Sun Yeli, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, told reporters. 

Every country's efforts to independently explore a path of modernization suited to its national conditions should be respected, he said. 

During the press conference, officials also stressed several aspects highlighted in the report, such as pursuing high-quality development, advancing law-based governance and building China's self-reliance and strength in science and technology. 

The report to the Congress made it clear that high-quality development is the primary task in comprehensively building a modern socialist country, said Mu Hong, deputy director of Central Commission for Deepening Reform of the CPC Central Committee.

It further highlights the overall and long-term significance of the quality of development, Mu added. 

On stepping up efforts to establish the rule of law throughout society, Chen Yixin, secretary-general of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, stressed that for the first time, the report to the Congress singled out the rule of law as a special chapter. 

It fully demonstrates the great importance the CPC Central Committee attaches to the rule of law in China, Chen said.
