China calls on all countries to practice true multilateralism and safeguard the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core, the international order based on the international law and the basic principles of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to China's take on the UN's role in today's world, adding that together with other countries, China is willing to play a more positive role in promoting the UN's noble cause of advancing the peace and development of mankind, carrying forward the common values for all mankind of peaceful development, fairness and justice and democracy and freedom.

"We stand ready to safeguard world peace, promote global development and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind," he added.

Upon the 77th anniversary of the establishment of the UN, Wang sent his congratulations, noting that the UN opened a new chapter for the development of international relations since the UN Charter came into effect today 77 years ago.

As the world's most universal, representative and authoritative inter-governmental international organization, the UN adheres to promoting multilateralism and plays an irreplaceable role in world peace and joint development advancement.

As the first country to sign on the UN Charter and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Wang said China always defends the purposes and principles of the charter and the UN's core role in international affairs.

Proposing the Global Security Initiative, sending over 50,000 soldiers to join in the UN peacekeeping operations and joining in the international arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation process, Wang said China keeps making contribution to world peace and development.

"We insist on the path of peaceful development and politics to resolve hot-spot issues," he said.

Besides, by joining in almost all general inter-governmental international organizations and over 600 international conventions and amendments, China positively attends international affairs, he said, adding that China makes positive contribution to global challenges by promoting the Paris Agreement, announcing the "dual carbon" goals and providing over 2.2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations.
