Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is set to become the United Kingdom's new prime minister as he was the only candidate to secure the backing of at least 100 Conservative lawmakers in the governing party's leadership race.
The leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt announced withdrawal from the race minutes before the 1922 Committee, in charge of running Britain's Conservative Party leadership contests, is set to make formal announcement.
