The Los Angeles Chargers lost another two key players to injuries as cornerback J.C. Jackson is likely ruled out for the rest of the season and wide receiver Mike Williams for a "matter of weeks, not days," according to their head coach Brandon Staley.

Jackson ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee during the Chargers' 37-23 home loss against the Seattle Seahawks at SoFi Stadium on Monday. Williams suffered a right high ankle sprain in that game.

"I think in the next couple days, we'll be able to assess our team a lot better," Staley said. "We'll take the next couple days and ... make those types of discussions happen, and we'll see. We're always going to look for avenues to enhance our team and make it better."

Having started in all of the Chargers' seven games so far during the 2022 NFL regular season, Williams was targeted 59 times and caught 37 passes for 495 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Chargers as a free agent in August after playing four seasons for the New England Patriots. Though he hasn't performed well so far this season, Jackson had 25 interceptions for the Patriots, the most in the league during those four seasons.

Jackson and Williams are only the latest injury blows to the Chargers roster. They already lost left tackle Rashawn Slater and outside linebacker Joey Bosa. Both were put on the injured reserve list after the 30-28 win over the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium on October 9.

Bosa underwent surgery to fix a groin tear and is still hopeful to return this season. "Joey is making progress. Don't have a timetable for his return other than he's making progress ... we're looking forward to him coming back as soon as possible," Staley said.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen, whose absence Williams filled in, came back from injury in the game against the Seahawks, but he only played in the first half catching two passes for 11 yards.

"Just didn't feel like he could really burst the way that he wanted to and didn't want to risk anything happening," Staley said of Allen. "So no step back yesterday, but just didn't want to push it."

The Chargers are currently 4-3 and second in the American Football Conference West behind the Kansas City Chiefs (5-2). They have a bye in Week 8 and will visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium to play the Atlanta Falcons on November 6.
