French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a "friendly" and "constructive" conversation over lunch on Wednesday, news agency AFP reported, citing German diplomatic sources.

The Paris meeting would lead to "very good and very intensive cooperation" in the coming weeks, the source added, saying that the pair were "of the same mind regarding the major directions" of policy.
