On May 1, 1958, Beijing Television, the predecessor of China Central Television, started trial broadcasting. After pilots of various programs, Beijing Television launched formally on September 2. On May 1, 1978, Beijing Television was renamed China Central Television, and China's TV industry entered a new era of development.
