Chinese President Xi Jinping called for unremitting efforts to modernize China's agricultural and rural areas. Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks during his visit to Yan'an in the northwestern province of Shaanxi and Anyang in the central province of Henan.
Xi said the most arduous task still lies in these areas in the Party's drive to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects. He also said it's necessary to prioritize the development of agricultural and rural areas, and consolidate and expand China's achievements in poverty alleviation. He stressed that the CPC has already achieved its first centenary goal of transforming China into a moderately prosperous society, and China has done its part to eradicate extreme poverty, but it must not stray from its path of development.
