01:21

The death toll from severe tropical storm Nalgae, which unleashed floods and set off landslides in several parts of the Philippines, has been revised down to 45 from 72, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced at a press conference on October 29.

Local authorities have reported a total of 4,975 evacuees, with classes suspended for the week in Negros Occidental province.

About 20 typhoons and storms batter the Philippines each year. It's located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a region along most of the Pacific Ocean rim where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur, making the Southeast Asian archipelago one of the world's most disaster-prone areas.
