Whole-system testing for the upcoming launch of China's space station Mengtian lab module was conducted at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in south China's Hainan Province on Saturday. 

The pre-launch test was to assess the functionality of Mengtian and coordination between different systems before the lab module is sent into orbit at an appropriate time in the near future. 

The test involved the Beijing Aerospace Control Center, Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site, Xi'an Satellite Control Center in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, and all the monitoring stations and vessels related to the launch. 

"The whole-system joint test, unfolded around the launch mission, is mainly aimed at the experimental verification of the interface and process of all systems. The normal completion of the entire joint test gives evidence that everything is ready for the launch of our Mengtian lab module, and we are awaiting the official launch of the mission," said Wang Saijin, deputy chief engineer at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center.

The combination of the lab module and its carrier rocket Long March-5B Y4 was transported to the launchpad on Tuesday. 

Preparations and drills covering multiple aspects have been conducted to ensure a punctual, reliable and safe launch.

Mengtian means "Dreams of Heaven," it can be further subdivided into work, resource, payload and cargo airlock modules.

Mengtian is mainly designed for scientific experiments. Unlike Tianhe and Wentian, it doesn't have a sleeping cabin. Instead, it's full of cabinets that can satisfy hundreds of experiments. 

The module will focus on microgravity scientific research. It is equipped with multi-disciplinary laboratory cabinets for experiments in fluid physics, materials and combustion science, basic physics and aerospace technology.
