China's Tang Qianting breaks women's 50m breaststroke Asian record

Chinese youngster Tang Qianting broke the women's 50m breaststroke Asian record twice on the final day of the Chinese National Championships (25m) on Saturday, clocking 29.43 seconds in the heat before breaking her own record with 29.19 in the final. 

Tang, 18, had previously set a new Asian record in the 100m breaststroke with 1:03.15 on Friday. 

"I felt more excited and better in shape in the final. I was very satisfied with my performance during the competition," said Tang.  

In the women's 100m freestyle, Olympic relay champion Yang Junxuan broke the national record twice, clocking 51.92 seconds in the heat then slicing off 0.14 seconds in the final.  

Li Bingjie snatched a gold medal in the 800m freestyle in a time of 8:02.09, her fourth gold in the competition. Earlier on Friday, she renewed the world record in the 400m, the Asian record in the 1,500m and the national record in the 200m.  

Two-time Olympic champion Zhang Yufei grabbed three titles: the women's 50m freestyle as well as the 50m and 100m butterfly. 

In the men's events, Qin Haiyang swept four titles: the 50m and 100m breaststroke, the 200m breaststroke and the 200m individual medley. 

The Chinese National Championships (25m) was the qualifying competition among Chinese swimmers for the FINA 2022 World Championships (25m) scheduled to take place from December 13 to 18 in Melbourne, Australia.
