At least 141 people were killed when a cable bridge in India collapsed on Sunday evening, New Delhi based news organization NDTV reported on Monday.
About 177 people have been rescued so far, and a search operation is ongoing for several others, the report said, adding that about 19 people have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities said nearly 500 people, including women and children, were celebrating a religious festival on and around the nearly 150-year-old bridge in Morbi in Gujarat state, in western India when cables supporting it snapped.
The bridge was reopened to the public just four days ago following renovation work, according to Gujarat's Minister for Labor and Employment Brijesh Merja.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to the state government officials and directed them to extend all possible help to those affected.
