Death toll from bridge collapse in India rises to 141: report

At least 141 people were killed after a pedestrian bridge collapsed into a river in the western Indian state of Gujarat on the evening of October 30, local media reported.

About 177 people have been rescued so far, and a search operation is ongoing for several others, the report said, adding that about 19 people have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

Rescue operations are still underway, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his condolences and asking the local government to speed up rescue work.
