IAEA investigating Russia's 'dirty bomb' allegations in Ukraine
CGTN

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN's nuclear watchdog, revealed on Monday that it has begun an "independent verification" in Ukraine of Russia's recent allegations that Kyiv is producing and preparing to deploy so-called "dirty bombs" and nuclear blackmail. Russia also called on the West to influence Ukraine to abandon such plans.

In response, Ukraine has refuted the allegations and accused Russia of setting the stage for deploying its own radioactive "dirty bomb" device on Ukrainian soil by making such claims.

In a statement, the IAEA confirmed that it has "begun and will soon complete verification activities at two locations in Ukraine" following a request from the Ukrainian government. Director General Rafael Grossi has promised to deliver his "initial conclusions" later this week.
