Up to 40% of Ukraine's energy system has been destroyed by Russian attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday.

In a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had to stop exporting electricity to European countries "due to Russian missile and drone attacks which destroyed 30-40% of its energy system."

Simson said she assured the Ukrainian president that the EU would reach out to partners "to help with the dedicated support needed."

On October 18, Zelenskyy claimed that 30 percent of Ukraine's power stations had been destroyed since October 10 by Russian strikes, causing massive blackouts across the country.
