A total of three police officers were injured in a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem, near the Temple Mount, The Times of Israel reported Thursday.

According to the report, officers spotted the Palestinian man acting suspiciously in the Iron Gate area and began to question him.

During the question, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the officers in his upper body.

The attacker, identified as a resident of Beit Hanina, was later shot dead after two Israeli police opened fire at him.

Another officer is light to moderately hurt by so-called friendly fire as his colleagues opened fire toward the assailant, the report said.

And a third officer is being treated at the scene but is in good condition. But the report did not say how he got injured.

The incident came a day after an Israeli officer shot dead a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank who the Israeli army said had rammed his vehicle at the soldier and then got out of the vehicle to attack him with an axe.
