The 2022 FIFA World Cup, which begins on November 20 in Qatar, is only two weeks away, but there has been an increasing number of players unable to participate in it because of injuries they suffered in the past months.
Canada may join those misfortunate national teams soon as their ace Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich clutched the back of his right thigh in the Bundesliga game against Hertha Berlin at the Olympiastadion on Saturday.
"According to the doctor, it's at least a fiber tear. We'll have to wait and see what comes out [of further examinations] tomorrow," Bayern's manager Julian Nagelsmann said.
As Bayern's key player in the wing and left back positions, Davis appeared in all but one of the club's 13 domestic league games as well as five of their six UEFA Champions League games. His role is even more important in the Canadian national team since he is their best player who has scored 12 goals in 35 games for them.

Canada's goalkeeper candidate Maxime Crepeau of Los Angeles FC may also miss the World Cup in Qatar as well after badly injuring his right leg in the MLS Cup against Philadelphia Union at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday. He was down on the field for several minutes before being taken out on a stretcher in a cart.
"I'm devastated for him, because it's a serious injury and it looks like he is going to miss the World Cup," Crepeau's backup John McCarthy said. "You are not coming out of this game for a Band-Aid."
Crepeau has made 15 appearances for Canada since his national team debut in 2016. He was their first choice in goalkeeper during the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup in 2021. Canada reached the semifinals back then, matching their best record in the tournament since 2007.
Canada are in Group F with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco at the Qatar World Cup. Their first game will be against Belgium at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan on November 23.
