Team China won the 2,000-meter mixed relay at the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Salt Lake City, the U.S., on Saturday, clocking 2:37.153 to beat South Korea, hosts USA, and the Netherlands.
The young Chinese squad was composed of Li Wenlong, Zhang Chutong, Zhong Yuchen, and Wang Xinran and averaged 21 years of age.
This was the first gold medal for China in winter sports in an international competition after Beijing 2022.
The 2022-23 International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup series has six legs, starting from Montreal, Canada, in late October. Chinese skaters are registered in all six legs, as well as the upcoming Four Continents Championships, also taking place in Salt Lake City.
