A total of 91 journalists from four state-owned and 73 local-level news organizations across China received 4.01 million yuan ($554,700) in assistance, the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) said on Sunday.

It is a responsibility to protect the rights and interests of journalists, said the ACJA.

Caring for journalists with special difficulties is an important entry point for the protection of their rights and interests.

With the support of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the ACJA has established an assistance program for Chinese journalists.

This is the ninth year in a row that the ACJA has provided assistance to journalists who have died, been disabled, or made seriously ill during their work. Over the past nine years, a total of 20.83 million yuan in assistance funds has been provided by the ACJA to 462 journalists from 259 news organizations across the country.
