China has always offered full support for the UN cause and supports a bigger role for the UN General Assembly, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday during his virtual meeting with  President of the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi.

Noting China always supports the cause of the UN and the UNGA's important role, Wang said China will continue to participate in international cooperation on climate change and make positive contributions to the success of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

China is also ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on water resources with other countries through the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, Wang said.

In the face of global turmoil, China will firmly uphold the international system with the UN at its core, international order based on international law and the basic norms of governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, Wang added.

Noting that the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) fully elaborated on China's foreign policy, Wang said China will take an active part in the reform and improvement of the global governance system, uphold true multilateralism and make a greater contribution to deepening cooperation with the UN in addressing common challenges facing the international community.

Noting that Chinese modernization insists on harmonious coexistence between man and nature, Wang said China will follow the path of green, low-carbon and sustainable development.

Korosi, for his part, congratulated China on the successful convening of the 20th CPC National Congress, saying that the UN looks forward to strengthening its cooperation with China to promote the success of COP27 and tackle climate change.

He said the UN also looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China to help vulnerable countries cope with water utilization and management challenges.

The two sides also exchanged views on the security council reform and other issues.
