China has said it plans to train at least 200,000 field engineers by 2025, as part of the efforts to improve the quality of vocational education and optimize the labor market structure.

The notice on vocational education training was jointly released by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

The MOE said the plan will mainly focus on technical positions in advanced manufacturing and strategic emerging sectors, particularly pointing out the digital and intelligent scenarios.

According to the plan, it will mainly adopt an apprenticeship system, which will be implemented by vocational schools and enterprises – the two sides work together on training plan details while enterprises provide apprenticeships.

By 2025, it is expected to involve over 500 schools and 1,000 enterprises.
