The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired a ballistic missile eastward, Yonhap reported Wednesday, citing the Republic of Korea (ROK)'s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The ROK's military said it "detected the launch from the Sukchon area in South Pyongan Province at around 15:31," referring to the body of water also known as the Sea of Japan.

Japan also confirmed the launch, with the government tweeting that the DPRK "has launched a suspected ballistic missile."

The DPRK said on Monday that its recent missile launches were simulated strikes on the ROK and the U.S. as the two countries held a "dangerous war drill," while the ROK said it had recovered parts of a DPRK missile near its coast.

The DPRK carried out a series of military operations, including test-firing a ballistic missile, from November 2 to 5 as the ROK and the U.S. held a six-day air drill involving some 240 military aircraft and two U.S. B-1B strategic bombers.
