Putin won't attend upcoming G20 leaders' summit: Kremlin spokesperson

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the Group of 20 (G20) leaders' summit scheduled for November 15-16 in Indonesia's Bali, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday. 

Peskov told TASS news agency that the Russian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Jakarta expressed respect regarding to Putin's decision not to attend G20 summit.

"It has been officially informed that Russia's President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 summit, and will be represented by a high-level official, and this has been discussed by President Joko Widodo and Putin in previous telephone conversations," AP quoted Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who is also the Chief of Support for G20 events.

Later on Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry revealed that Moscow will announce a number of initiatives related to food supplies and energy at next week's G20 summit.
