China held its 14th airshow in Zhuhai City this week, where the country's first self-developed trunk jetliner, the C919, debuted. The plane maker, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), signed a confirmed order for 300 C919 aircraft and 30 ARJ21 aircraft with seven leasing companies, raising its 20-year aircraft demand forecast.

India's Supreme Court upheld a law that allows 10 percent of college places and government jobs to be reserved for the poor.

This is in addition to 49.5 percent quotas reserved for socially and historically disadvantaged groups, like people from certain Hindu castes.

Under the new law, poor people, even from upper castes, will get preference.

Indonesia's food and drug agency said on November 9 that it had suspended the licenses of two more local drug companies producing syrup-type medications. The country had earlier banned the sale of such medication as it is said to have caused the deaths of nearly 200 children due to acute kidney injury.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) provisionally agreed to a $4.5-billion support programme for Bangladesh on November 9, with the country's finance minister saying the deal would help prevent economic instability from escalating into a crisis. Reuters reported that: "Bangladesh's $416-billion economy has been one of the world's fastest growing for years. But rising energy and food prices, sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, along with shrinking foreign exchange reserves, have swelled its import bill and current account deficit."

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on November 9 fired a ballistic missile eastward, the Republic of Korea (ROK)'s Yonhap news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The ROK's military said it "detected the launch from the Sukchon area in South Pyongan Province at around 15:31," referring to the body of water also known as the Sea of Japan.
