The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday expressed the hope that the United States can meet China halfway.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press conference, ahead of the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden in Bali, Indonesia.

China's policy stance towards the U.S. is consistent and clear, Mao said.

"We are committed to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation with the U.S. At the same time, we will firmly defend our sovereignty, security and development interests," she said.

China views and develops its relations with the U.S. in accordance with the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi, and calls for establishing the right way forward for bilateral relations in the new era, Mao told reporters.

"We hope the U.S. can meet China halfway to properly manage differences, advance mutually beneficial cooperation, avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation, and bring China-U.S. relations back to the right track of sound and steady development," she added.
