A suspect is in custody on Monday after a shooting at the University of Virginia (UVA) left three students dead and two others injured Sunday night.
The suspect has been identified as UVA student Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., and all three of the victims were football players, UVA President Jim Ryan told reporters on Monday morning.
One of the injured students was in good condition and the other in critical condition, according to Ryan.
It remains unclear what led to the shooting that occurred on late Sunday night when the suspect allegedly opened fire on a bus full of students returning from a field trip and triggered a campus lockdown as well as a manhunt.
The White House later denounced the "senseless shooting."
"Our deepest condolences are with the countless families, friends, and neighbors grieving for those killed as well as those injured in this senseless shooting," the White House statement read.
