Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday said that the country's modernization drive will bring opportunities for Spain and the rest of the world, when he met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on the sidelines of the G20 Summit on the Indonesian island of Bali.

China is ready to work with the Spanish side to take the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries to a new level, Xi said.

He said both sides should understand and support each other on issues of core interests such as sovereignty, security, development and dignity.

China is willing to strengthen communication and collaboration with Spain through the G20 and other multilateral platforms to jointly address challenges such as climate change and energy and food security, said Xi.

He expressed the hope that Spain can play an active role in promoting the healthy and stable development of China-Europe relations.

Sanchez, on his part, said China has always been a stabilizing force in the international order.

Spain is willing to strengthen high-level contacts with China, boost cooperation over trade, investment, climate change, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, he said.

The Spanish leader also said the country will help facilitate China's investment in Spain, and is ready to promote dialogue and cooperation between Europe and China across the board.

China and Spain will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.
