Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya says the government hopes to diminish the prevailing car culture by providing another mode of transportation with the high-speed railway. He added that people tend to buy private cars for point-to-point travel, resulting in traffic congestion and increased emissions. Minister Budi Karya believes the high-speed railway can bring about "a new culture" that could reduce traffic jams in the future.
