A seminar titled "China and the World Embarking on a New Journey" was held by China Media Group (CMG), China's national radio and television broadcaster, on Wednesday in Nairobi, capital of Kenya.
Sixty media executives, experts and scholars from 20 countries shared their insights on how to build a China-Africa community with a shared future.
Thomas Mkandawire, station manager at 5fm Radio Zambia, said that Africa and China should strengthen media cooperation to cope with Western media stereotypes and eliminate dependence on Western media organizations for news, broadcast content and information sources.
Rwandan researcher and publisher Gerald Mbanda and The Calabash Newspaper's managing editor Amin Kef-Ranger both agree that China has helped the development of Africa through various channels, such as providing African students with the opportunity to study in China. They can contribute to the development of their continent, including media professionals.
The seminar is part of the annual CMG Africa event "Our Media Partners: CMG Media Corporation Forum."
The annual forum reviewed the achievements of China-Africa media cooperation over the past year, with participants from across the African continent brainstorming ways for a better understanding of the cooperation and development between the two sides.
The forum also saw the annual report on CGTN Africa news programming launched, which stated that future productions will focus on African developments to better satisfy the needs of African viewers for news on the continent.
