An Indonesian family one step closer to a better life
03:12

Topik Hidayat grew up poor. Since the third grade, he worked to help support his family. Later in life, he became a part-time truck driver; his income was unstable. But his family's life changed when he started working for KCIC, the high-speed railway consortium, as a construction worker. It was a stable job that allowed him to provide for his family, and fulfill his wife's dream of starting a small business. His daughter also benefited from the relocation of her primary school due to the high-speed railway project. The new campus now has a field, a mosque and a library. The environment is more conducive for learning. In many ways, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway project has changed the lives of Topik Hidayat's family.
