Can China rise to the task of reducing its coal reliance while meeting a never-ending demand for more power? At Heidaigou in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China's largest open-pit coal mine is seeing changes to adapt for the future. It's as big as 7,000 soccer fields and operates 24/7, producing 100,000 tonnes of coal every day. That meets the annual electricity demands for some half a million households.
