The third power transmission line from south China's Guangdong Province to the Macao Special Administrative Region went into operation on November 25. The 10.3-km underground cable connects Guangdong's Zhuhai City and Macao. Macao's total electricity consumption in 2021 was 5.649 billion kilowatt-hours, of which 90 percent came from the China Southern Power Grid. The third line will enhance power transmission capacity by 30 percent to 1.7 million kilowatt-hours. The Chinese mainland began supplying electricity to Macao in 1984, and to date, annual power transmission has increased 26-fold since 1999.
